Title: Updating to v1.8.5 assistance
Post by: rodeo88 on December 06, 2013, 06:40:08 AM
Hi everyone. Just hoping someone could let me know the process for upgrading the qt client. Is it a matter of obvisously backing up wallet.dat, installing old version, download new version and import .dat into appdata/roaming/infinitecoin folder?

thanks

1.  Backup all the files in the same folder with wallet.dat (including wallet.dat)
2.  Clear this folder of everything EXCEPT wallet.dat
3. Open 1.8.5 client and let it sync.

You should be good to go.

Heya, thanks for replying.

Bit unsure what you mean. go to appdata/raoming/infinitecoin where all the folders are ( and back all of these up and then delete everything?

Yes. After you back up clear the folder of everything EXCEPT your wallet.dat file. Then start the new client. Let it sync. If it hangs try reloading a few times.

Yes, you have to grab the whole blockchain.  I know it is a pain, but it is necessary.

Yes, your "unconfirmed" will be good once you walk the full chain.

Good things come to those that wait. :)

Are you sure there are no other programs blocking the connection? WIndows firewall should ask if you want to allow the QT client to communicate with the network when you run it. Outbound ports are TCP/9321 and TCP/6667.  Let us know if you're still having issues.

Kind regards,

DW

I see that we are having this discussion in this thread as well http://infinitecointalk.org/index.php/topic,571.45.html

Help us help you by posting some detail, such as the following:

What version of the IFC client are you running?
What operating system (i.e. Windows 7 Home 64bit, Windows XP SP3 32bit, Fedora 14, etc)?
How many connections does the IFC-QT client show to the network?
Are you using an 'infinitecoin.conf' file?
Have you ever had a working IFC client?

Let me know and I'll help you work through it.

Thanks,

DW

I would not advise turning off your firewall. Is this how you have been operating with the IFC client in the past? When you first run a program that requires network access, you should be prompted to take action (allow/deny/block). I would turn your firewall back on and run the infinitecoin-qt.exe client and see if you are prompted.
